:: Meet This Boi::
Meet a new addition to the Queer B.O.I.S. team, Mara Collins. She has a big heart and  each time we meet I’m reminded why everyone loves her.  I can always count Mara to be wearing a genuine smile each time we meet.
Self-care is the way we give back to ourselves and protect what is an important is a gift, our well-being—physically, mentally and emotionally.  We must sometimes take the time speak to with someone qualified to help us work the maze of our feelings and minds.  With that said, we’d like to take this time to welcome Mara and ask that you too welcome Mara to the Queer B.O.I.S. Family.  We’re excited to have Mara’s contributions and encourage you to reach out and submit any questions you may have. She will also provide feedback via our Facebook page.
Cheers!

Hello!  My name is Mara Collins. I am a licensed therapist in Atlanta, GA.  With an emphasis on our community, I provide counseling for individuals, couples and families.  I identify as butch.  I am here to offer perspectives in mental health for those of us living outside of gender norms.
Peace of mind, self esteem and positive relationships frequently depend on  being true to our masculinity. It can be a struggle and a badge of honor at the same time.
Every couple of weeks, I will post an article that addresses mental health and masculinity. My goal is to highlight the things we already think about but would benefit from talking about with each other. If you have a mental health-related question send us an email.   You can visit my website at www.birdseyeviewcounseling.com.

Simply sharp look!

Good afternoon,

I wanted to take the time to send a formal email because I feel as though simply placing a post under your comment section does not truly reflect how  serious I am when I say thank you for your work. I am genuinely  thankful for what you do because it is so helpful to see a different face to what is traditionally associated with the term B.O.I.S. There are many of us who are educated and of various color, and size.  I appreciate the quality representations your blog provides in reflecting real people and not simply sensationalized stereotypes of what B.O.I.S. look like and we are. I thought you should know you work is extremely appreciated. I cannot tell you how exciting it is to see someone depicted in a respectful and professional manor similar to the way I represent myself.  Your organization is doing extremely quality work. I want to be clear I am emailing, not to get a response or to promote myself or my blog, I am simply providing a standing ovation for the work being done by your incredible organization

Best,

Bradley

This is one of the reasons why we continue to post each week.
Thank you.
-McKenzie

“Tonight, we would especially like to speak to the adolescents in our country – boys and girls – who have been hurt during this debate. We speak to those children who found themselves in the midst of deep and frightening chaos. They discovered a society where a wave of selfishness led many to loudly protest against the rights of others.

We simply want to tell these adolescents that they are at home in our society.

We recognize them in this society. We recognize their contradictions, talents, shortcomings, qualities and fragility. These are the things that make each and every one of us unique. Regardless of any sexual issues, each one of us is unique. That is the strength of our society. It is even the basis of our society. It is the basis of our relationship to society. So we tell these adolescents: if you find yourself losing hope, sweep all of those thoughts out of your minds. They are only words. One day they will float away. Stay with us and keep your heads high. You have nothing to be ashamed of. We say that loud and clear, with our all the strength in our voices. As Nietzsche said: Truth kills. And if you repress it, it will kill you.”

Speech by the French Minister of Justice, Christiane Taubira, before the French National Assembly, immediately following the final passage of legislation legalizing gay marriages in France.
